installation with visuals and electronics

controlEYE] is an installation in which the antagonism of observing/ being observed is visualized using Jitter OpenGL. Twenty-four rotating spherical grids mimic eyes and track the loudest sound source with their gazes. This creates a field of tension between watching the projected eyes and being watched as soon as one (un)intentionally creates sounds. Two or more microphones are placed in a horizontal line parallel to the screen to track the amplitude of any sound produced by the performers/ audience to determine the viewing angle of the projected eyes. If the amplitude is below a certain threshold (can be changed in the MaxMSP patch), pre-recorded samples of people walking around are played and randomly panned to the speakers. These sounds are in turn captured by the microphones and are feed back to the patch.
